Set on the River Esk, this village has some handy shops and a dog-friendly pub. Climb Wheeldale Moor along the Lyke Wake Walk to the standing stone Blue Man-i’-th’-Moss (4 miles) and soak up the incredible moorland views. Just 11 miles away is the superb seaside town of Whitby, with its eclectic mix of amenities and scenic spots to explore such as the 199 steps walk and Whitby Abbey. Let the dogs run wild and free on the sheltered and sandy beach, Tate Hill, or Sandsend Beach (10.5 miles) which has dog-friendly sections year-round.
