Sleeping four and welcoming two dogs, this 18th-century cottage set within the owner’s grounds is a comfortable home away from home with a layout to suit your canine companions. On the ground floor is a handy utility room perfect for storing leads, towels and toys, while on the first floor the open-plan living area means they can be by your side all evening long. Only 1 mile away is the village of Black Torrington, where your four-legged friends can join you inside the local inn for a refreshing bowl of water.
If it’s been a wet or muddy day then wipe their paws and pop towels and clothes in the washing machine to get rid of any pesky prints. Climb the stairs and step into the bright lounge/kitchen/diner. While you cook up a storm, throw your dog a bone and let them settle in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire for a snooze. After dinner, snuggle up on the sofa and choose something to watch on the Smart TV, the perfect way to unwind before heading down the corridor to bed. Outside, there’s a beautiful space to enjoy day or night. Stroll through the garden and orchard on sunny mornings, and plan a family BBQ with tasty treats for everyone in the afternoon. In the evening, soothe tired feet with a dip in the hot tub. Please note, there is a river at the bottom of the garden and sometimes sheep in the fields, so keep curious children and canines close by.
For a magical walk in the woods, visit The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden (13.5 miles). Well-behaved pups on leads are welcome, so follow the path through 4 acres and find all the gnomes and pixies. If you’re after adventure, sniff out the trail at Lydford Gorge (21 miles). Your hound will go mutts for the beautiful countryside, and with a shop, tearoom, and children’s play area, there’s something for everyone.
