Dreams of coastal living come true at this quirky seafront property. Just a few steps from Herne Bay’s big shingle beach it offers a front row seat at sunset, and chic interiors where a couple and their canine plus-one can enjoy down-time together.
Built in 1895 this semi-detached, wooden holiday home retains many original features, with polished wood floors throughout plus a fascinating collection of art and accessories. Once inside all the accommodation is on one level, and includes a stylish sitting room with sash windows which offer shoreline and sea views. Double folding doors lead from here onto a glazed veranda, and the living space is further extended by a delightful dining room where Fido can stretch out and keep all paws crossed for an after-dinner treat. The contemporary kitchen houses all you’ll need for fuss-free self-catering, and completing the layout is a pretty double bedroom, shower room and separate WC. Watch the world go by from the decking area to the front of the property, where the garden is fenced. There’s a patio area to the rear of the property too.
This cheery seaside cottage is close to Hampton Pier on the western side of Herne Bay, famous for its long promenade and well-kept seafront gardens. Four miles east, dog-friendly Reculver Beach is a small, tranquil stretch of shingle backed by rocks and grassy areas; the remains of a 12th-century church with two towers, known locally as ‘The Twin Sisters’, make a romantic backdrop for walks with your furry third-wheel. Dogs can run free on the beach at foodie-favourite Whitstable, 4 miles in the opposite direction; for a change of terrain follow The Crab & Winkle Way, a 7.5-mile mostly traffic-free trail between the harbour here and Canterbury.
